Samuel Dark enlisted in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers direct from the Royal Monmouthshire Militia in August 1868, aged 20 years. He subsequently served in the 2nd Battalion for 22 years but saw no active service and was discharged as a Canteen Sergeant in June 1890. He was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in November 1886; sold with copied research.
