Army L.S. & G.C., W.IV.R. (William Benn, Serjeant 69th Re[giment F]oot. 1835) fitted with original steel clip and bar suspension, latter part of naming partially obscured through edge contact with Waterloo medal, therefore good fine £800-1000

William Benn was born in the Parish of Clan William, County Limerick, and enlisted into the 69th Foot on 15 July 1807, aged 12 years. He was appointed Drummer in July 1813, Corporal in March 1820, and Sergeant in March 1822. He was discharged to pension on 30 June 1835. ‘He served with the Corps at the affair before Merxem in February 1814, at the bombardment of the French fleet at Antwerp, also at the storming of Bergen-op-Zoom in March 1814; was present with the Regiment on the 16th, 17th & 18th June 1815 at Quatre Bras and Waterloo, and served eight years one hundred and forty two days in the East and three years one hundred and ninety days in the West Indies, and the remainder at Home.’ Sold with copied discharge papers.
