Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Johannesburg (2815 Pte. J. E. Mitchell, S. Wales Bord.), edge bruising and polished, fine or better £80-100

James Edward Mitchell was born at Horfield, Bristol and enlisted in the South Wales Borderers in September 1889, aged 18 years. Drafted to the 1st Battalion, he served in Egypt and Gibraltar, prior to transferring to the 2nd Battalion and being placed on the Army Reserve in September 1896. Recalled on the outbreak of hostilities, he witnessed active service in the 2nd Battalion in the period January 1900 to May 1902, and was placed back on the Army Reserve in August of the latter year; sold with copied research.
