Thomas Preston was one of 53 men from the 1st Battalion to be seconded to the Mounted Infantry, as a consequence of which he was present in the action at Korosko on 3 August 1889; 17 men were similarly engaged and all of them received the Medal without clasp; sold with copied medal roll extract.
