John Smyth, No. 31), hallmarked London 1805, 40 x 26mm, 7.59g (W –; D & W –). Very fine and dark-toned, extremely rare, especially so named to the then Master of the Mint £400-500

The Rt. Hon. John Smyth (1748-1811), MP for Pontefract 1783-1807; educ. Westminster School and Trinity College, Cambridge; Lord of the Admiralty 1791-4; Lord of the Treasury 1794-1802; Master of the Mint 1802-4; Commissioner of the Board of Trade 1805. What in all probability was John Smyth’s early York racecourse ticket was in Tim Millett FPL 2001 (108)
