Farran Zerbe [bt from J.T. Trowbridge, 4 May 1927];

Charles I. Bushnell (1810-80), of New York, was one of the foremost collectors of coins in America in the 19th century. After his death his collection was purchased outright by Lorin G. Parmelee of Boston, who retained a few pieces and placed the balance with the Chapman brothers in Philadelphia with instructions to catalogue them for auction. The sale, conducted at the Broadway premises of Bangs & Co, was the largest of its kind ever held in the United States up to that time
