Germany, Vice-Admiral Graf von Spee, 1914, a silver medal by F. Ziegler for Lauer, bust three-quarters right, rev. battleship sinking another vessel, 34mm (Frankenhuis 524; BDM VI, 729; cf. DNW 40, 819); Ehr und Rhum zieret Deutsches Heldenthum [Honour and Glory decorate German Heroism], 1914, medals (2), by L.C. Lauer, in bronze and iron, similar bust of von Spee, rev. crowned cross and anchor, 50 and 33mm (Frankenhuis 527; BDM VII, 536) [3]. First extremely fine and toned, others about extremely fine (£30-40)

The first medal commemorates the Battle of Coronel, waged off Santa Maria, Chile, on 1 November 1914; the others commemorate the battle off the Falkland Islands on 8 December 1914, when the Scharnhorst was sunk
