France, Quatercentenary of the Birth of Antoine de Pluvinel, 1955, a bronze medal by J. Vernon, bust left in ruff, rev. Pluvinel teaching Louis XIII to ride a horse, open book below, 68mm (CGMP p.1865). Minor rim nicks, good very fine (£30-40)

Antoine de Pluvinel (1555-1620), horse trainer; studied horsemanship under Pignatelli, 1565-71; appointed premier ecuyer to the Duc d’Anjou, the future Henri III, 1572; travelled with him from Cracow to Paris when Henri acceded to the French throne, 1574; founded the Académie d’Equitation, 1594.
