THE PRESTON-MORLEY BUCKINGHAMSHIRE COLLECTION, Stowe School, a silver award medal, by F. Phillips, similar, named (Open Boxing Competition, 1932, Under 12 Stone 7 Lbs, J.M.N. Pike), 45mm (Grant, BNJ XXIII, p.463 [1924]). Minor surface marks on reverse, otherwise extremely fine and toned (£60-80)

Air Commodore James Maitland Nicholas Pike, CB, DSO, DFC (b.1916), of Watlington, Oxon; educ. Stowe and RAF College, Cranwell (King’s Medallist, 1937); served in Aden, Middle East, Coastal Command, Malta and the Azores; at RAF Staff College, 1945-7; Group Capt 1955; commander of RAF St Mawgan and RAF Kinloss 1955-7; RAF Malta 1958-60 and Gibraltar 1961-2; appointed Air Commodore 1961; director of security, RAF 1965-9. Pike also won medals for boxing at Stowe in 1931 and at Cranwell in 1936-7. Further biographical detail is sold with the lot
