The Licensed Victuallers’ School was founded in 1802, and houses were bought for the school in Kennington Lane, London, in 1837. In 1920 the LVS took over the abandoned Orphan Asylum buildings in Slough, which were rebuilt and opened by HRH Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, on 26 October 1921. The original Royal Hotel buildings were demolished in 1938 after the new school, opened by the late Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, was built. Further details are sold with the lot. For pre-1920 medals associated with the School, see lot 745
