THE PRESTON-MORLEY BUCKINGHAMSHIRE COLLECTION, Eton College, a silver award medal for House Fives, unsigned [by Birmingham Medal Co], similar, rev. house fives eton college around wreath, named (J.H.M. Hare’s Esq, N.A. Pearson, 1916), 39mm. Cleaned in the past, otherwise very fine (£35-45)

Sir Neville Arthur Pearson, 2nd Bt (1898-1982), son of Sir Cyril Arthur Pearson, newspaper proprietor; at Eton 1912-16. Pearson’s athletic prowess at Eton was paramount during his time there and he won School Fives in 1915 and 1916 and captained the Eton XI in 1916. After leaving Eton he was a Lt in the Royal Field Artillery from 1917-20, serving in France and Belgium, where he was wounded; he served again in the Royal Artillery in World War 2. Pearson was joint vice-chairman of George Newnes Ltd, the London publishers, but retired in 1968; he lived at Highgate.

John Hugh Montague Hare (†August 1935), of Docking Hall, Norfolk; assistant master at Eton 1885-1923; member of Oxford Harlequins, played cricket for Oxford University and county cricket for Norfolk. Further biographical details are sold with the lot
