Hammer Price:

Offa (757-796), Penny, Light (?) coinage, probably Canterbury, Ealred, offa rex in angles of long cross botonnée on a saltire botonnée, rev. alred on limbs of Celtic cross, central panel containing a small cross with group of pellets around, 1.29g/10h (Blunt 9 obv./49 rev., and same obv. die as Lockett 3570; N 263/291; S 904). Very fine and well struck, extremely rare; the combination of types believed previously unknown (£1,500-2,000)

Provenance:
Found near Folksworth, Peterborough, November 2001.

Although the types would suggest a Light issue of Offa, the weight correlates more to a Heavy penny. See Colour Plate II
