No. 95 Squadron was formed in October 1917, but did not see action in the Great War, being disbanded in July 1918. Reformed with a detachment of three Sunderlands from No. 210 Squadron at Pembroke in January 1941, the unit commenced operational patrols out of Gibraltar shortly afterwards. A few weeks later, however, No. 95 was posted to Freetown, Sierra Leone, the arrival of Vichy aircraft on the scene resulting in the arrival of a flight of Hurricanes being added to the Squadron’s strength. In March 1943, No. 95 moved to a new base in the Gambia, and flew operationally for the remainder of the War, detachments also being based in Dakar and Liberia. No. 95 was disbanded in 1945.
