An original Buckingham Palace memorial scroll in respect of Flying Officer W. K. Burr Thomas, Royal Air Force, a pilot of No. 106 Squadron who was killed on a “Gardening” operation to St. Nazaire in February 1941; together with two related photographs, one of a group of R.A.F. officers, with 14 original signatures, including that of Burr Thomas, the other of him with ‘Pauline’, as captioned on the reverse, tears to top of the memorial scroll, otherwise generally in good condition (Lot) £50-60

William Kelman Burr Thomas was serving as a Flying Officer and pilot in No. 106 Squadron at the time of his death on 4 February 1941. His Hampden - AD750-ZN - took-off at 1730 hours from R.A.F. Finningley on a ‘gardening’ operation off St. Nazaire. Nothing further was heard from the aircraft, which crashed near Nantes. All four crew died and were buried locally in the Pont-du-Cens Cemetery.
