India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Sikkim 1888 (2348 Pte. Fr. Shaw, 2nd Bn. Derby R.) minor edge bruising, nearly extremely fine £260-300

Frederick Shaw was born in Church Broughton, Derbyshire. A Labourer by occupation, he attested at Burton-on-Trent on 5 April 1880, aged 18 years, 4 months. Originally serving with the 60th Rifles, he deserted on 6 April en route from Burton-on-Trent to the 19/20 Brigade Depot. Served in the UK until 28 December 1881 when the regiment went to Gibraltar. Then went with the regiment to Egypt, August-October 1882. Whilst in Egypt he was confined, 23-29 September 1882 and was tried and imprisoned for 30 days for theft. As a result, the award of his Egypt Medal and Khedive’s Star were forfeited. He then served in India, October 1882-November 1890, seeing active service in the Sikkim expedition 1888. He was discharged on 23 July 1892.
