Waterloo 1815 (R. Ser. Maj. J. G. Walker, 23rd Reg. Light Dragoon[s]) replacement hinged silver straight bar suspension with brooch fitting, heavy edge bruising, contact marks, good fine £1800-2200

Ex Glendining’s May 1957.

Joseph G. Walker appears to have enlisted in 1808-10 (musters currently not available) and was promoted to Corporal on 25 December 1811. He was promoted to Sergeant on 25 November 1812, and to Troop Sergeant Major on 26 June 1813, notably rapid promotion for the time. Dwelly’s Waterloo Roll shows six Troop Sergeant Majors in the regiment for Waterloo, Walker perhaps being the most senior and thus given the newly introduced senior rank of Regimental Sergeant Major. Sold with copied muster roll.
