Waterloo 1815 (Corporal M’Gavern, 6th or Inniskilling Drag.) fitted with steel clip and ring suspension, note lack of initial, edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise better than good fine £1800-2200

John McGavern was born at Aghalane, Maguires Bridge, County Fermanagh, and attested for the 6th Dragoons at Enniskillen on 12 June 1810, a Weaver by trade, aged eighteen years. He served eight months in France and Flanders and was in Captain William Frederick Browne’s troop at the battle of Waterloo where his regiment formed part of the Union Brigade in their famous charge. He was promoted to Corporal on the day after Waterloo and was discharged in the rank of Sergeant on 5 July 1833, suffering from asthma and general impaired health after more than twenty-five years service. Sold with copied discharge papers.
