Desmond Spence was born on 25 March 1922. Served in the ranks of the T.A. for over 7 years, and in the ranks of the Regulars for over 18 years. Commissioned as a Lieutenant (Quartermaster) in the Royal Signals in March 1965 and promoted to Captain (Quartermaster) in February 1967 and Major (Quartermaster) in September 1972. Major Spence retired from the Army on 31 December 1976.

With some copied service details and roll extract confirming the award of the Coronation 1953 as Acting Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant in the Royal Signals.
