George Douglas Savage was born on 6 July 1919. He enlisted on 8 April 1940. Trained with 11 O.T.U. and was posted to No. 150 Squadron in December 1941. Sergeant Savage was flying as Observer, one of a crew of six, in Wellington bomber Z1076, which took off from its base at R.A.F. Snaith at 17.36 on 11 February 1942, to carry out a raid on Brest. The aircraft was one of a formation of eleven aircraft detailed for the mission. Wellington Z1076 failed to return to base, both it and its crew were lost without trace. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial and also in the R.A.F. Book of Remembrance in St. Clement Danes Church, Strand, London. He was the son of Mr & Mrs G. A. G. Savage, 165 Portland Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham and the wife of Peggy Evelyn Jones, whom he married in 1941.
