Pair: Private A. Kirk, Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, who died on 22 January 1925

British War and Victory Medals (28435 Pte., Notts. & Derby. R.); Silver War Badge (390728) nearly extremely fine (5) £60-80

Arthur Kirk enlisted into the Notts & Derby Regiment on 29 July 1915. He was discharged due to sickness on 14 May 1918 and admitted soon after to the Derby County Mental Hospital. He died there on 22 January 1925, the cause being given as primarily, ‘General Paralysis of the Insane’ and secondarily, ‘Aortic disease’. Notes with the lot suggest the cause was a S.T.D. contracted in R. & R. areas behind the lines - a not unusual occurrence for front-line troops in the Great War. Kirk’s home address was given as ‘58 Old Market Place, Somercotes, near Alfreton’.

With ‘Sherwood Foresters’ cap badge and brass shoulder title; Derby County Mental Hospital Notice of Death and copied research.
