Pair: Second Lieutenant N. S. Hatch, 13th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, killed in action, First Day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916

Nicholas Stephen Hatch was commissioned a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the 13th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles in April 1915 (London Gazette 17 June 1915). He entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 13 February 1916. He was killed in action on 1 July 1916 - the first day of the battle of Somme. His body was recovered and buried in the A.I.F. Burial Ground, Flers, Somme. He was the youngest son of Mr Mark Hatch, of Duleek, Co. Meath. His elder brother, Captain Mark Hatch, Army Veterinary Corps, died from the effects of gas poisoning on 30 December 1922. With copied research.
