Lockhart Frederick Charles St. Clair was born on 5 October 1896, the son of Lockhart Matthew St. Clair and Ellen Mary Margaret Rice. He was educated at Wellington College and the Royal Military College Sandhurst. From the college he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 21st (Empress of India’s) Lancers (London Gazette 22 December 1914). He entered the N.W. Frontier of India theatre of war on 12 October 1915. In June 1917 he was seconded to the Royal Flying Corps (London Gazette 1 August 1917). Served with No. 99 & 93 Squadrons. Listed as wounded on 4 August 1917. Post-war he served as a Lieutenant in the Reserve of Officers - ceasing upon reaching the age limit in 1946 (London Gazette 15 October 1946). The intervening years were not overly kind, being twice listed for bankruptcy. Lockhart St. Clair died on 9 November 1960. With copied R.F.C. service papers, family details, gazette extracts and m.i.c. - the latter shows him making a claim for the 1914-15 Star.
