Annie Steel was born in 1878 and trained as a Nurse at the North Riding Infirmary, Middlesborough. As a Staff Nurse in the T.F.N.S. she entered France on 20 February 1918. She later served in Iraq, one of 22 nurses of the T.F.N.S. to receive the clasp. She retired as a Health Visitor in 1933. Miss Annie Steel, F.B.C.N. died at Menston, West Yorkshire, on 2 June 1934.
