William Henry Ralph Gardner was born in Gosport on 12 September 1889. Employed as a Shipwright in civilian life, he jointed the Royal Navy as a Shipwright 1st Class on 26 March 1914. During the war he was based at/on Maidstone, Victory II, Fisgard and Assistance. Ranked as Shipwright 2nd Class in October 1918 when on Assistance; Shipwright 1st Class in September 1922 when on Dido and Chief Shipwright 2nd Class in November 1927 when at Fisgard. Served on the sloop/survey vessel Iroquois from May 1928. With copied service paper.
