Four: Piper P. Fallon, 6th Battalion Royal Highlanders, who died of wounds, France, 27 June 1915

Patrick Fallon was born in the Parish of Kilmadock, Perthshire c.1882. He served as a Piper with the 4th (Perthshire) Volunteer Battalion prior to 1908 and then with the 6th (Perthshire) Battalion Royal Highlanders (Black Watch) and was awarded the T.F.E.M. in 1913. With the 1/6th Battalion Royal Highlanders he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 2 May 1915. The battalion formed part of the 153rd (Infantry) Brigade of the 51st (Highland) Division. Fallon died of wounds in France on 27 June 1915, aged 32 years, and was buried in the Pont-du-Hem Cemetery at La Gorgue, Nord, France and his name is commemorated on the Kilmadock Parish War Memorial at Demme. He was the son of Mr & Mrs John Fallon, of 20 Balkerach Street, Doune, Perthshire.

In the death announcement in
The Stirling Observer of December 1915, he is described as ‘an exemplary young man, with a reputation as an amateur photographer, possessing certificates for building construction and sanitation and noted for the excellence of his work in drawing and painting.’

With copied research including a photocopied photograph of the recipient; another of him in the Band of the 1/6th Battalion Royal Highlanders and a modern photograph of his headstone.
