Alexander Loftus Otway was born in Waterford on 19 June 1880. He qualified as M.B., B.Ch., B.A.O., D.P.H. Lond. 1913. Commissioned a Lieutenant, 30 January 1904, promoted to Captain, July 1907, Major, July 1915 and Acting Lieutenant-Colonel, January 1918-February 1919. Served in India, 1905-10; France and Flanders, August 1914-May 1915; with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force, December 1917-October 1918. In command of the 130 Field Ambulance from January 1918. Served in India once more, 1919-22 and then the Gold Coast, 1924-25. Placed on Retired Pay due to ill health and granted the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, 5 July 1927. Re-employed as C.O. of the Military Hospital Londonderry, 8 January-27 August 1940. He died on 19 September 1958 at Londonderry.
