Four: Corporal G. Edmonds, 11th Hussars

George Edmonds, a Musician aged 15 years, 2 months, enlisted into the 11th Hussars at London on 18 March 1895. Initially ranked as a Boy, he was appointed Bandsman in July 1897 and Trumpeter in January 1899. He was promoted to Lance-Corporal in September 1906 and Corporal in October 1912. Served overseas in India, September 1895-October 1899 and Egypt, October 1899-April 1900. During the Great War he served in France, 15 August-9 September 1914 and again, December 1916-October 1917. Edmonds briefly served with the Royal Irish Fusiliers, December 1916-April 1917, before returning to the 11th Hussars. He was transferred to the 16th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment in September 1917, however, his second period in France was curtailed through gunshot wounds to the face and shoulder, suffered on 9 October 1917. He was discharged in May 1919.
