Three: Lieutenant-Colonel C. H. Paynter, Royal Monmouthshire Engineers Militia and Royal Devon Yeomanry

Colonel Camborne Haweis Paynter was born on 25 January 1864, the eldest son of R. H. Paynter, of Boskenna, Cornwall. Educated at Charterhouse, 1877-82. He was commissioned in to the 21st Hussars in 1884 and later the same year transferred to the 5th Dragoon Guards, being promoted to Captain in 1889. He then served in the 6th Dragoons, becoming a Major and then served in the Royal Monmouthshire Engineers in South Africa, 1899-1901. Placed on Retired Pay, 1901. Appointed Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel of the Royal Monmouthshire Militia, 1904-08; then Major and Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel of the Cornwall (Fortress) R.E., 1909-14. During the war he was a Major in the 1st Royal Devon Yeomanry, commanded a Remount Depot and later served as a town Major in France. Paynter latterly lived at Boskenna, St. Buryan, Cornwall and died 11 January 1949.
