Pair: Colour-Sergeant James McNair, 93rd Highlanders

James McNair was born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, and attested there for the 93rd Highlanders on 7 February 1859, a Shoemaker by trade, aged 18 years. He served with the regiment in the 2nd Eusufzye Expedition from 25 November 1863 to 31 January 1864, including the defence of the camp in the Umbeyla Pass on the 16th December 1863 (Medal with clasp). He received his L.S. & G.C. medal in April 1877 together with a Gratuity of £5, and was discharged in the rank of Sergeant at Aberdeen on 22 January 1880. He afterwards served as a Sergeant on the Permanent Staff of the 3rd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders from 11 February 1880 to 27 February 1885.
