A Second World War O.B.E. group of eight awarded to Colonel E. V. Lang, Durham Light Infantry, attached 9th Armoured Division

The Order of the British Empire, O.B.E. (Military) 2nd type; 1939-45 Star; Burma Star; France and Germany Star; Defence & War Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaf; General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Malaya, G.VI.R. (Col., O.B.E. Staff); Coronation 1953, mounted as worn, good very fine (8) £300-350

O.B.E. London Gazette 8 June 1944. The recommendation states: ‘Lt Col Lang has been AA & QMG 9 Armd Div since 5 Nov 42. During this period the Div has been in six different locations, served in two Corps and three Commands. This has thrown an immense amount of work on to the AQ side and it is primarily due to Lt Col Lang’s unremitting energy, skill and forethought that the many moves and changes have gone so smoothly. At the same time he has been able to bring the operational administration of the Div up to a very high standard.’

M.I.D.
London Gazette 2 August 1945: ‘In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in North West Europe.’

The lot is sold with an original pencil sketch of the Church of Bon Secours, Brussels, dated 1943, and inscribed to Colonel Lang ‘a nos liberateurs, 1er Janvier 1945.’ These medals form part of a family group, see Lots 1040 and 1082.
