Dennis “Charlie” Mubvumbi was born at Mtoko, Rhodesia in August 1922 and enlisted in the British South Africa Police in August 1943, following brief employ as a school teacher and as a telephonist with the Farmers’ Co-op. Initially based at Umtali and Chipinga on regular policing duties, he transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department in 1951 and was advanced to Detective Sergeant in 1957. ‘A hard working detective’, Mubvumbi gained a good reputation for his investigations into bicycle theft in Salisbury and was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in April 1962. He retired to the Mtoko Tribal Trust Lands in late 1972; sold with copied retirement feature from the B.S.A.P. Journal, including portrait photograph.
