Six: Trooper C. W. Moon, 1st Royal Tank Regiment

1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Italy Star; France and Germany Star; Defence and War Medals, M.I.D. oak leaf very fine and better (6) £200-250

Clifford William Moon was born at Mountain Ash, Glamorgan in February 1918 and enlisted in the Royal Tank Corps in July 1937. Having witnessed active service in North Africa and Italy, he went on to distinguish himself with the 1st Royal Tank Regiment in the North West Europe operations and was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 22 March 1945), in addition to receiving a Commander-in-Chief’s certificate of commendation (21st Army Group) . He had earlier been wounded in France - ‘Shell wounds face’ (Cavalry and R.A.C. Record Office letter, dated 31 July 1944, refers).

Sold with a quantity of original documentation, including M.I.D. certificate; C.-in-C’s commendation, with facsimile signature of Montgomery, dated February 1945; Regular Army ‘Certified Copy of Attestation’, dated 21 July 1937; Royal Tank Corps Association membership booklet, dated 2 February 1938; and a dozen or so wartime photographs.
