Four: Petty Officer Stoker E. T. Williams, Royal Navy

1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Pacific Star; War Medal 1939-45, good extremely fine, together with original Admiralty condolence slip in the name of ‘Edgar Thomas Williams’, and card forwarding box addressed to ‘Mr. E. Williams’ of Newport (4) £80-100

Edgar Thomas Williams, whose parents, James and Rosetta Williams, were residents of Llandaff North, near Cardiff, was killed in action on 10 December 1941, when the battle cruiser H.M.S. Repulse was sunk by Japanese aircraft. Operating out of reach of air cover from Singapore, in company with the battleship Prince of Wales and some destroyers, Repulse, like her larger consort, fell victim to enemy dive bombers and torpedo bombers, the demise of both capital ships being complete within half an hour.

Sold with some research covering this famous blow to British naval prestige in the Far East.
