Chief Officer Charles Hall was born in Warrington in 1893 and died on 4.5.1917 when his ship, the S.S. Pilar de Larrinaga was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine two miles S.E. of the Tuskar Lighthouse. 20 men including the captain were killed. His name is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial, London.
