John G. Sumpster was born in the Parish of Blackwater, Aldershot, Hampshire, and enlisted for the Imperial Yeomanry on 20 February 1901. He served in South Africa with the 36th (West Kent) Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry, from 16 March 1901 to 27 August 1902, and was discharged at Aldershot on 3 September 1902. Sold with copy discharge papers.
