Three: Warrant Officer Class 2 W. Laurie, Royal Artillery

India General Service 1895-1902, 2 clasps, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Relief of Chitral 1895 (2615 Gunr., No. 3 Mtn. By. R.A.); Victory Medal 1914-19 (2615 W.O. Cl. 2, R.A.); Army L.S. & G.C., G.V.R.,1st issue (2615 Sjt., R.F.A.) clasps mounted in order stated and the second of these a tailor’s copy, the first with contact marks and edge bruising, about very fine, the remainder generally very fine (3) £100-120

William Laurie was born in Glasgow and enlisted in the Royal Artillery in February 1894, aged 21 years. Posted to India in February 1894, he joined No. 3 Mountain Battery in the following year and witnessed active service with the Chitral Relief Force in 1895 and on the Punjab Frontier with the Malakand Relief Force between 1897-98. He also served in China between April 1900 and November 1901, and was present in the relief of Pekin operations. Advanced to Bombardier in September 1900 and to Corporal in July 1902, Laurie returned to India until embarked for the U.K. in March 1904. Promoted to Sergeant in May 1908, he was still a regular soldier on the outbreak of hostilities and served out in France with the 1/2 North Midland Brigade, R.F.A. between February 1915 and February 1916, in which latter month he returned home and was discharged as a Battery Sergeant-Major, aged 43 years.
