Four: Corporal D. J. Young, Royal Artillery
Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol (Gr. & Dr., 1st Batn. Rl. Ar[ty.]), officially impressed naming, single initial ‘D.’; New Zealand 1845-1866, reverse undated (1973 Gunr., Royal Arty.); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (8979 Corpl., Cst. Bde. R.A.); Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue (R.A.), depot impressed naming, single initial ‘D.’, contact wear and edge bruising, the latter obscuring part of unit on the first, the Crimea pair otherwise good fine and the remainder about very fine or better (4) £300-350
David John Young enlisted in the Royal Artillery in January 1855 and was posted to the 1st Battalion, R.A. as a Gunner and Driver, in which rank he served in the Sebastopol operations in the Crimea. He was also actively employed out in New Zealand for nearly 6 years, very probably as a member of 4 Brigade, R.A. Young, whose regular advancements to Bombardier were just as regularly reversed back to Gunner for misdemeanours unknown, finally attained the rank of Corporal in April 1874 and was discharged at Woolwich in April 1876.
