International, Organisation of American States, Dominican Republic Medal 1956, bronze, obverse: North and South America, ‘Fuerza Interamericana de Paz’; reverse: ‘Al Merito’, with riband bar, nearly extremely fine £20-30
This medal was struck for award to the various U.S. Airborne Troops sent to the Dominican Republic in April 1965 to stop the dissident uprising which was threatening U.S. citizens and interests. Due to considerable political sniping in Congress, President Johnson and his Army Staff recommended disapproval of the award.
