Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (22425 Coy.-Serjt.-Major R. L. Counter, R.G.A.) good very fine £60-80

Richard Laskey Counter was born in the parish of Danbury, near Newton Abbot, Devon and enlisted in the Royal Artillery in January 1882, aged 19 years. In his subsequent career of 21 years with the Colours, his overseas postings included Halifax, Nova Scotia between September 1887 and March 1890, Bermuda between March 1890 and April 1892, and India between October 1894 and March 1903. But his only medal entitlement, other than his L.S. & G.C. Medal which was awarded in 1902, was a Delhi Durbar Medal for 1903. Counter attained the rank of Company Sergeant-Major in January 1902 and was discharged on returning from India in the following year; sold with copied service papers.
