The Most Honourable Order of The Bath, G.C.B. (Civil), an important Royal Presentation diamond set breast star, silver on gold, and enamel, 80mm x 76mm, the rays and centre completely set with more than 350 circular-cut diamonds, the motto set with rose-cut diamonds on a red enamel ground, the centre with three gold and enamel crowns, the reverse gold plate inscribed ‘The Lord Wigram from King George & Queen Mary 1935’, in Garrard & Co. case of issue, extremely fine and of the highest rarity £3500-4500

Clive, First Baron Wigram of Clewer, P.C., G.C.B., G.C.V.O., C.S.I. (1873-1960), was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1893; A.D.C. to Lord Elgin, Viceroy of India, 1895 and 1897-1904; exchanged to the 18th Lancers, Indian Army, 1897 and served on the North West Frontier (medal with three clasps); served in South Africa (despatches, medal with six clasps); Assistant to the Chief of Staff during H.R.H. Prince of Wales’ visit to India 1905-06; Major 1906; Lieutenant-Colonel 1915; Assistant Private Secretary and Equerry to King George V 1910-31; Private Secretary and Equerry to King George V 1931-35; Private Secretary and Keeper of H.M. Privy Purse 1935-36; Deputy Constable and Lieutenant Governor, Windsor Castle; Permanent Lord in Waiting and Extra Equerry to King George VI 1936-52; Permanent Lord in Waiting and Extra Equerry to Queen Elizabeth II from 1952 until his death on 3 September 1960.
