Military General Service 1793-1814, 3 clasps, Ciudad Rodrigo, Vittoria, St. Sebastian (Daniel Downer, Royal Waggon Train) contact marks, nearly very fine and scarce £700-800

Ex Payne Collection.

Daniel Downer was born in the Parish of Godshill, near Newport, Isle of Wight, and first enlisted for the Royal Waggon Train on 1 April 1809, aged about 17 years. He appears to have been discharged on 6 September 1814, but then re-enlisted into the Royal Waggon Train at Newport, Isle of Wight, on 8 August 1815, and served on until his final discharge on 24 March 1819, ‘in consequence of a reduction of part of the Corps, and debility of the right shoulder from fracture of the scapula occasioned by a fall from his horse while on service in Portugal about seven years since.’ Sold with copy discharge papers.
