Chandrasuba Gurung was born in November 1911 and enlisted in the 6th Gurkha Rifles in November 1927. Having gained advancement to Jemadar in January 1943 and to Subadar in the following year, he was mentioned in despatches ‘for gallant and distinguished services in the Mediterranean theatre’ (London Gazette 23 May 1946 refers). Gurung attained the rank of Captain in July 1949, shortly before being placed on the Retired List.
