This lot was sold as part of a special collection, Medals to The Rifle Brigade and Affiliated Regiments from the collection formed by Michael Haines.

James Brown enlisted into the Rifle Brigade at his home city of Winchester on 10 November 1891, and was discharged at his own request on 29 November 1911. He served in India from December 1893 to November 1904, and then in Aden until January 1906. His discharge papers confirm medal and both clasps but give no indication as to whom he was detached in the relief of Chitral.
