William Hodgins was born in Tipperary in 1851 and enlisted for the Rifle Brigade at Dublin on 16 October 1871. He served in India from October 1872 until December 1888, returning to England for eight months during 1877, and in Burma from December 1888 until January 1890. He was discharged from the Rifle Brigade in November 1890 and posted the following month, as Colour Sergeant, to the Permanent Staff of the Tower Hamlets Volunteers, being finally discharged as Acting Sergeant-Major on 27 November 1900. Sold with copy discharge papers.
