Canada General Service 1866-70, 1 clasp, Fenian Raid 1866 (685 C/Sgt., 4/R.B.) engraved naming; India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Jowaki 1877-8 (685 Colour Sergt., 4 Bn. Rifle Bde.); Afghanistan 1878-80, 1 clasp, Ali Musjid (685 Cr. Sgt., 4th Bn. Rifle Bde.); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (685 C. Serjt., 4th Bn. M.S.M. awarded on 25 April 1910 together with £10 annuity. He had been recommended for the M.S.M. in July 1903, after 22 years in the 4th Battalion Rifle Brigade, and over 15 years on the Permanent Staff of the 1st Volunteer Battalion of the Black Watch, until discharged on 17 September 1895. He was the father of C.S.M. T. Tait, also of the 4th battalion, who won the D.C.M. and was killed in the Great War (see Lot 69).
