Four: Private Charles Millson, 2nd Battalion, The Rifle Brigade, who was attached to Ross’s Camel Corps during the Indian Mutiny

Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol (2nd Btn. Rifle Bde.) officially impressed naming; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 2 clasps, Lucknow, Central India (Corpl., 2nd Bn. Rifle Brgde.); Ashantee 1873-74, no clasp (4408 Pte., 2 Bn. Rifle Bde. 1873-4); Turkish Crimea, British issue (2.B. R.B.) contact marks and edge bruising, otherwise good fine or better (4) £500-600

Private Charles Millson was attached to Ross’s Camel Corps during the Central India campaign. This ad-hoc unit was comprised of some 200 Sikhs and four officers and 100 men of the 2nd and 3rd Battalions of the Rifle Brigade, all under the command of Major John Ross, of the 3rd Battalion. Millson did not qualify for the Commassie clasp to his Ashantee medal having been ‘Sent back sick from Essidwdu on 21 January 1874.’
