John Hamilton Lambert was born at Liverpool on 25 January 1867, and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Marines on 1 February 1887; Lieutenant, 24 March 1888; Captain, 6 September 1896; Major, 3 April 1905; Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel, 3 March 1912; Hon. Lieutenant-Colonel, 11 September 1917; Lieutenant-Colonel, 12 Aigist 1918; Colonel, retired, 25 January 1922. Fluent in French, Italian, Japanese and Chinese, he served with the Legation Guard at Pekin, 1894-95. He served as Paymaster to the Chatham Division from 1912, and was awarded the O.B.E. for valuable services as Paymaster Chatham. Colonel Lambert died on 24 March 1925.
