John Reed enlisted into the Royal Artillery at Gateshead on 7 September 1972. He did two tours in Northern Ireland and served in the Falkland Islands from 19 May to 29 June 1982. He was discharged from 7th Regiment, Royal Horse Artillery, on 30 April 1985.
