Warine Frederick Martindale was born in 1894, the son of Lieutenant Colonel C. S. Martindale, and was educated at Winchester College. When the Great War broke out he was in Canada reading for the Bar, he immediately returned to England and obtained a commission in the 3rd Battalion, Scots Guards. He proceeded to the front in November 1915, and was killed in action on 15 September 1916 near Guinchy, whilst serving with the 1st Battalion, Scots Guards. His name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
