2nd Lieutenant Kenneth Sheriff was born in Helensburgh, Dumbartonshire and was educated at Rugby School, being captain of the Gymnastic Team. In July 1914 he matriculated at Birmingham University and received a commission in the Special Reserve of the Royal West Kent Regiment in November 1914. As a 2nd Lieutenant with the 3rd battalion Royal West Kent he went to France / Flanders and in May 1915 he went to the front being attached to the 2nd Border Regiment. On 19.6.1915 he was hit by a sniper’s bullet whilst serving in the trenches between Festubert and La Bassee. He died in hospital at Bologne on 23.6.1915 and was buried in the Bologne Eastern Cemetery.
